When we look for the probe for our fishing kayak, the most common doubt is: What type of battery do I need?

The first thing we must take into account is how much our equipment consumes, for example: the echomap 72 Plus CV, has a consumption of 15w.

LITHIUM 12v DURATION BATTERY CALCULATION:

The capacity of rechargeable lithium batteries is measured per milliampere / hour (mAh). They exist from 1200mAh to 20,000mAh (1000 milliamps = 1 amp).

To calculate its duration, you must first go to Watts / Hour, and subtract 20%:

(Volts) x (Ampere Time - 20%) = Watts / Hour

Calculation example with a 12v battery of 20,000mAh (20 Amp / Hour):

12v x 16A / h (20,000mAh-20%) = 192w / h (power per hour)

With this data, you can easily calculate how many hours a product would last with this battery.

For example, we need to feed a probe during the period of at least 1 hour. First we have to check their consumption (it comes in the documentation of each team). Let's say it is the echomap 72 Plus CV, which has a consumption of 15w. Knowing that a 20,000mAh battery offers 192w / h and the probe needs 15w in 1 hour, the calculation is simple!

192/15 = 12.8h should my battery last me.

It looks complicated, but it is not.

We recommend conventional 12v batteries for your safety. Lithium batteries are lighter, but in contact with water can cause great damage to the kayak hull which is not advisable!

Here we leave a video from youtube with what happens to a lithium battery when in contact with water.
